This is a summer 2011 blog that will document:
The development of my programming and software skills
Any outside projects
Interaction design theory
This is in preparation for my 3rd year of interaction design.
I aim to learn more about Ineraction Design principles and theories in order to improve the validity of my outcomes, and to help improve my understanding of my field
There are a few technical skills which would improve my work, as although my work does include working mockups, if i had more knowledge, i would be a more effective designer. I want to be able to create concepts and make them work.
Programming languages i want to learn include: Javascript, JQuery and AJAX. I could also do with learning Micrsoft Visio (which could help with wireframing), and also improving my knowledge of HTML, CSS, PHP, MYSQL as well as Adove Creative Suite products: Flash and Photoshop, but adding to this Illustrator which i am not very familiar with. I am staying away from Dreamweaver in order to improve my core programming skills, and to avoid using a visual aid which would limit my understanding of the coding itself. I have in the past challenged myself and taught myself some web coding languages which i have used to create some working mockups i.e. http://dinnermate.net/ However, learning jquery and learning more html and PHP could have improved the appearance of it.
I also want to learn about iphone app development, and will invest in a personal development subscription and learn both the programming skills required and the heory behind making useful, easy to use apps. I feel that this would be hugely useful in producing working outcomes and a few of my outcomes have been apps!
I have a small reading list so far:
User experience theory books
Undercover User Experience Design (Voices That Matter)
-BOUGHT
Measuring the User Experience: Collecting, Analyzing, and Presenting Usability Metrics (Interactive Technologies)
Simple and Usable Web, Mobile, and Interaction Design (Voices That Matter)
Programming Language Books
